Can I use sick days or paid time off during FMLA at UPS?
Yes. You can — and often must — run accrued sick, optional, and vacation days concurrently with unpaid FMLA leave.
FMLA leave is unpaid by default, but UPS Teamsters can substitute accrued paid time — sick days, optional days, personal holidays, and vacation — to receive pay during the FMLA period. In many supplements, the company is allowed to require concurrent use of paid leave during FMLA, so you don't get to "save" the paid days for later.
Disability or workers' comp benefits that overlap with FMLA also count concurrently. The FMLA clock runs whether you're paid through accruals or not — 12 weeks total per rolling year.
