What are the general wage increases (GWI) in the UPS contract?
GWIs are flat dollar raises that apply on August 1 each contract year to top-rate employees, with separate ladders for progression and part-time.
A "general wage increase" (GWI) is the across-the-board hourly raise the National Master Agreement promises on a set date each contract year — typically August 1. The dollar amount is fixed in the contract (for example, $2.75 in year one, $0.75 in year two, etc.) and applies on top of the existing top rate.
Progression employees usually advance on their own ladder (see the progression FAQ) rather than receiving the GWI directly, and part-time inside employees have a separate GWI schedule in the Master. COLA, if triggered, is paid on top of the GWI.
